HCG Diet
By Jon B.
My wife and I started the HCG diet yesterday 9/28/2010. We ate whatever we wanted, which was too much. For dinner I had FOUR tacos and dessert was half a cheesecake. Crazy I know. This is pretty consistent of my behavior up to this point. I eat too much and don’t get enough exercise. I am a stay at home dad and find it hard to take time and exercise with a VERY needy 7 month old who is teething. So this will be my experience as it unfolds. I will be following the 500 calorie diet and taking 34 daily sub-Q injections of HCG. This journal is to chart weight loss or gain day to day, to jot down how I am feeling and record food intake. I won’t be speaking of my wife’s weight loss but if you would like to check out her progress she has a journal at patsmohcgdietjournal.blogspot.com so check it out. My wife also explains more about the diet itself incase you want to see more details. As for me my goal weight is 175 lbs. I am currently 194.5 lbs.
Day 1 (194.5 lbs): Ate maybe 3000 calories today and took my first injection. Starting the diet tomorrow.
Day 2 (194.5 lbs): Had trouble sleeping last night but it is not too bothersome. I am super motivated to lose my weight. Took a 1.3 mile walk in the evening. Wasn’t hungry all day although had slight tummy rumbling.
Breakfast: coffee Lunch: chicken, cherry tomatoes Snack: apple Dinner: crab, grissini breadstick, asparagus
Day 3 (190.6 lbs down 3.9lbs): A dramatic weight loss but I contribute this to not eating salty foods. Still not sleeping well. I t’s not unbearable though because once I fall asleep I sleep very soundly. Slightly more hungry today but not bad. Did my 1.3 mile walk, slightly more fatigued on walk.
Breakfast: 3 strawberries Lunch: Shrimp, cabbage, grissini Snack: apple Dinner: halibut and scallops (100g total), green salad with balsamic, grissini Cheat snack: 7 hot chilli peppers
Day 4 (186.8 lbs down 7.7 lbs): Another amazing loss! Almost 4 lbs in one day and I can’t contribute it to water weight. Still having trouble sleeping but with these losses it is SO worth it. I have noticed my tummy not feeling as bloated and uncomfortable as before the diet. I am more energetic and comfortable in my skin. The hardest, so far, is seeing food and wanting it or thinking about food and wanting it. I found if I am having cravings a bunch I can go smell the food and imagine eating it to rid myself of the craving. Also I am not going to research this diet on the internet again till I am done. I did yesterday and ran across all the negative sites for hcg. It makes you doubt yourself and you need your mind in this diet if you are to succeed.
Breakfast: Half Grapefruit Lunch: leftover halibut and scallops, celery, grissini Snack: apple Dinner: Chicken, cabbage Cheat snack: air popped popcorn, chili peppers, pickle spear
Day 5 (187.8 lbs down 6.7 lbs): Well I am up a pound today but it’s not hard to see why if you look at the cheat snacks I had that night. It is most likely extra water weight due to the amount of johnny’s season salt I put on my popcorn right before bed. I simply ate too much to see a drop even though I’m sure it’s not a gain because I still couldn’t have surpassed the 800 calorie mark. I am going to be very strict from now on until I can’t stand it and may have to cheat. Slept way better last night. 1.3 mile walk.
Breakfast: coffee, two strawberries Lunch: Crab, melba toast Dinner: chicken soup with onions and tomatoes Snack: half grapefruit
Day 6 (186.8 lbs down 7.7lbs): I am back down to where i was on day 4. I have hit a plateau but that is to be expected. I should just be happy that i weigh less then i have in two years. Today is going to be a relaxing sunday so i think i will consume a little less today and see what happens. Took our 1.3 mile walk.
Breakfast: Half grapefruit Lunch: shrimp, grissini, cabbage Dinner: chicken in broth, grissini
Day 7 (185.6 lbs down 8.9 lbs): Finally broke under what i was on day 4. It has only been a week and I have lost 9 lbs. If i continue at this rate i will get well under my goal weight. I don't think this trend can possibly hold up but you never know. I imagine i will see steady losses but they will get less dramatic. I didn't eat as much yesterday and it wasn't worse then any other day. I think cheating a couple light snacks is a bad idea because it doesn't satisfy and it does make you plateau. However I can't stop talking or thinking about food. I am not really hungry I am just so used to eating what I want when I want. I can't wait for oct 13th. That is my wife and I's anniversary. We have decided to cheat on that day because we don't want to spend it hungry and possibly cranky. That is just over 9 days away so as long as i am under 180 by then i will not feel bad in the least.
Breakfast: Green tea Lunch: Crab, melba toast Dinner: Chicken wings, veggie patch pizza (half)
Day 8 (184.4 lbs down 10.1 lbs): So I totally cheated last night. We went do Applebee's and I had hot wings and half a veggie patch pizza. It was SOOOO good. I figured i would be up today but to my suprise I was down over a pound. I took my injection today in my muscles instead of Sub-Q. I am tired of injecting in my belly and hips. I feel better this morning having had a great nights sleep with some real calories in me. My next cheat will net be for 8 more days but I think having something to look forward to helps me stay on track and motivated. Another interesting note is I do not sweat that much. Sounds funny to say but if you knew me you would know I am a human space heater who can sweat in a tshirt in winter. I especially sweat when I sleep. I just realized this morning that I don't really sweat at all. 1.3 mile walk.
Breakfast: Green tea Lunch: 3 egg whites and one whole egg, melba toast, green salad Dinner: chicken and broccolli soup Snack: wife and I split one of those single serving bags of popcorn(the really little ones)
Day 9 (184.6 lbs down 9.9 lbs): I am up a little today but I think I know why. When someone tells you too use a "palm" of each seasoning in the soup that doesn't mean as much as might think it means. It was SO salty that my wife had to water hers down a bunch. I ate mine and this morning can feel the water retention. We also split one of those single serving bags of popcorn last night and had popcorn salt on that as well. I am not disheartened but I really need to get a handle again and get some good days in without eating anything extra. At least try and get below 180 before our anniversary on the 13th. I have been trying to stand instead of sit as much as I can today. Standing burns about 50% more calories then sitting. Also I am trying to move something while I am sitting to try and burn those precious calories. Every little bit helps.
Breakfast: Coffee and green tea Lunch: Salad w/ cherry tomatoes, scalops and one chili pepper Dinner:
Spaghetti made with ground turkey, tofu noodles and tomato paste (Mmmmm)
Day 10 (183.4 lbs down 11.1 lbs): Baddah bum bum bum another pound bites the dust. You know if someone told me I could lose 11 lbs in 10 days I would have called it a scam. I am quite in awe considering the amount of times I have cheated on this diet. I should easily be able to get to my goal weight by the end if not sooner. My pants and shorts are already starting to fall off without a belt. The spaghetti we had last night was great as long as you don't care about textures. Tofu noodles are like eating long flat slimy worms. You have to just chew them up and not think about it.
Breakfast: Coffee and green tea Lunch: Leftover spaghetti (my wife couldn't eat hers) Dinner: bbq chicken, grilled onions Cheat snack: 7 tootsie rolls, handfull of honey nut cheerios
Day 11 (181.8 lbs down 12.7 lbs): Can't believe I lost that much after eating tootsie rolls and honey nut cheerios before going to bed. Oh well, I won't complain. Did some light weight lifting yesterday. I do not want to lose my arm or shoulder muscle so I will be working out these muscles lightly each day.
Breakfast: coffee and green tea Lunch: Egg salad (4 egg whites 1 egg yolk, diced up pickle, deli mustard and rooster chili sauce) Dinner: Turkey patty, asparagus, grissini
Day 12 (181.6 lbs down 12.9): Not a huge loss but I did drink half a Mt Dew last night at a HALO: Reach party at my sisters. Did you know one can of Mt Dew has 170 calories. That is insane when you think of the peole who drink soda all day every day. No wonder there is so much obesity in the world. It is too easy to get toxic food in this day in age. In fact most food you can get is very much toxic. Full of hormones and preservatives and so much sugar and fat. I am hoping this diet will teach me to eat better all the time even when I am off of it.
Breakfast: coffee Lunch: Turkey Patty, cooked spinach Dinner: Chicken, cabbage, grissini
Day 13 (181.6 lbs down 12.9): I have hit a plateau and I know I will not be able to get past it today. My wife went off to my sisters baby shower and we agreed that if she gets to eat cake I get to make myself chili cheese dip. I am so excited. Chili cheese dip is one of my all time favorite "bad" things to eat. I am super happy with my progress so far so I don't feel that bad.
NOTE: Some of you may be wondering where I have been and what progress I have made. Let's say none. You may remember, as stated above, I was going to cheat and have some chili cheese dip. Well I did and soon that turned into five days of cheating the diet that ended the day after our anniversary. Not much I can say but I didn't take any injections on those days. So I will start today as day 14 of the injections. I will not weigh myself today because I am a little nervous at how much weight I put back on. I am going to weigh in tomorrow after I have had a day to get all the food and water weight out of my body. So back on track and ready to do it to it.
Day 14: Not much to say except I am glad to be back on the diet. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to eat greasy food after so much time eating right. It physically hurts and doesn't satisfy like you think it should. I will be weighing in tomorrow to see what the five day damage is.
Breakfast: coffee, green tea Lunch: chicken, grissini Dinner: chicken, grissini
Day 15 (181.8 lbs down 12.7): As you can see I didn't do as much damage as I thought. YAYYY! I obviously didn't go down anything and am up a measly .2 lbs. I can handle that. I am going to try and be as strict as I can for the remainder of this diet. Note I said try. I don't want to make promises I may not be able to keep. What I do know is I will for sure get down to my goal weight of 175 lbs but wouldn't mind if i could make it down to 171.8 lbs. Another 10 lbs would be REALLY awsome. We are having a going away party today for my brother in-law. He is going into the Air Force to be Para-Rescue. I am so excited for him but I know there will be cake there. I will resist at all cost. If he can handle boot camp I can handle looking at some nummies without eating them. Right? Well it's six in the evening and I couldn't resist the nummies. I had some subway sandwiches. At least I didn't eat any of the sweets plus I am not going to eat anything for the rest of the day. I doubt I ate over 800 calories but we will see what the scale says tomorrow.
Breakfast: coffee, green tea Lunch: Subway sandwiches off of platter, a few lil smokies Dinner: dieters tea
Day 16 (181 down 13.5 lbs): I am glad to see a loss again. Here is a trick I use to make sure I weigh in each day as equally as possible. Obviously I only wear my underwear, but I also drink about 2 liters of water in the hours leading up to bed. This makes me flush all my water out through to night so I weigh in the same every day. I must admit the 5 trips to bathroom throughout the night are not the best but my daughter still wakes up during the night she would be waking me up either way. Today we have a brithday party for my niece so hopefully there won't be as much food there as we had yesterday. I am confident I will stay away from the sweets since I have never been a big sucker for the sugary stuff. Instead, I am more of a salt and meat kind of guy.
Breakfast: (do you have to ask) coffee, green tea Lunch: lil' smokies, cheese and meat platter snacks, cake (I know I know) Dinner: water
Day 17 (180.6 down 13.9 lbs): Well I guess I can be a sucker for sweets. It was a delicious cake though and I still saw a .4 lb drop. Back at my house for the next five days where we have nothing but our diet food and baby food. Nothing to really tempt me. Feeling good still. We watch food network alot. It is a nice kind of torture. There is this new show called Meat & Potatoes that is awsome. Talk about my kind of food. Last night the host was showing us how this restaraunt takes like 16 hours to fully make a brisquet for an amazing looking sandwich. Oh man I can't wait to eat some real food.
Breakfast: coffee, green tea Lunch: chicken, grissini. cucumbers Dinner: Tofu spaghetti w/ tomato paste and ground turkey
Day 18 (179.2 down 15.3 lbs): It amazes me how much weight you can lose when you stick to the diet. I was strict yesterday and today I have a 1.4 lb drop. It is way motivating. The hardest part at this point in the diet is eating because I have lost so much weight. I keep wanting to have something good and greasy and in my mind I think "Go ahead, you have lost so much weight. It's okay if you stop the diet now." I have not reached my goal weight yet so I am going to keep at it as best as I can.
Breakfast: Coffee, green tea Lunch: Tofu spaghetti w/ tomato paste and ground turkey Dinner: Chicken wings
Day 19 (179.2 down 15.3 lbs): Nothing much to say. I did have an apple for breakfast today. I am worried I may be eating not enough food. Hopefully see a good drop tomorrow since today is a push. Annabelle got sick today and we had to take her to the urgent care. She had a 102.8 F temperature. It is so scary having a sick baby. At least she is more cuddly then usual.
Breakfast: Apple Lunch: Roast beef, chili peppers Dinner: chicken, broth and chili peppers
Day 19 (179 down 15.5 lbs): I have seem to hit a major plateau and I am stumped at what to do. I don't want to eat less because I need my nutrition. I hope to see a good drop tomorrow but maybe my body has reached what it thinks is it's ideal weight. I have heard that that sometimes happens to people on these kinds of diets. My wife is still seeing good losses and we eat basically the same things. IDK.
Breakfast: coffee, green tea Lunch:
Day 6 (186.8 lbs down 7.7lbs): I am back down to where i was on day 4. I have hit a plateau but that is to be expected. I should just be happy that i weigh less then i have in two years. Today is going to be a relaxing sunday so i think i will consume a little less today and see what happens. Took our 1.3 mile walk.
